Changes to the First Aid Training for Children’s Services
· Importance of First Aid Training
Learning First Aid may help save a life. And this is a compulsory unit for Certificate 111 in Children’s Services Students, and a job requirement for those students seeking work in the industry.
· Reasons for the Change
From January 2012, new national standards have been introduced in all Child Care
Centres, and so influencing our Certificate 111 course. This includes an update in the First Aid Training Course. The new code of the course is HLTFA301C Apply First Aid (before it was HLTFA301B)
Trainers from St John’s Ambulance in Fortitude Valley do the training here at QAT every
4 months for the students, our next training being on Wednesday 15th February.
· What has changed in the First Aid training?
The changes in this training include how to manage allergies, anaphylaxis and asthma
which is an additional component of the unit. Over the years there has been an increase in the number of children at Child Care Centres with asthma and allergies and severe allergic reactions can be life threatening, so it is important for child care professionals to know the correct First Aid procedure.
· Training Costs
This will add an additional cost to the training of $10 per student.
When Cert 111 students enroll they will be paying $160 instead of $150 for their First
Aid Training,as a part of their fees.
